How To Disassemble: 8900 Curve 2 / Javelin
Some common issues of Trackball BlackBerrys are that the trackball at times may become “unresponsive”. This is generally caused by debris underneath the trackball.
The first recommended fix for repair is to turn the device off, press down on the trackball and move the trackball in all different directions to attempt to remove the debris.
In the event that does not work, we have put together a step-by-step tutorial on how to remove and clean the trackball.

1. Remove the Battery Door, Battery, SIM Card and MicroSD Card from the BlackBerry.
_____________________________________________________________________________
With the Torqx Screwdriver, remote the top two screws to the left and right of the camera. Note, once these screws are removed, the front top plate (lock/mute plate) may fall from the device. Don’t worry…The screws you just removed are what was holding it on.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Remove the black screws that are approx 1/2 way up the device.
_____________________________________________________________________________
With a cellphone repair tool, butter knife, fingernail, etc.; pull out and down on the antenna cover on the bottom of the device until it dislodges.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Remove the two silver screws that are located underneath the antenna cover.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Carefully remove the back plate of the device.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Next, remove the front of the device from the board. Take note of the two clips on the bezel which are holding the front of the device to the board, and disconnect them carefully.

_____________________________________________________________________________
Remove the front part of the device from the board. Note, there is a good chance the trackball will fall out, so be careful not to lose it. Also, the front upper plate (lock/mute plate) will probably come off at this point if it did not during the removal of the first two screws.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Once the front of the device is removed from the board, you can prepare to install your new trackball.
NOTE: If you are looking to change your bezel, this is the step in which to do so. Simply relocate the keypad and trackball to the new bezel.
_____________________________________________________________________________
When re-installing the front of the device, it is important to note which direction the trackball goes into the device. You will notice on your board where the trackball goes, you will see two small “holes”. Note on the bottom of the trackball, you will notice two small “prongs”. Make sure these are lined up correctly before putting the front of the device back onto the board. (The “prongs” and “holes” should be horizontal).
Once confirmed, clip the front of the device back onto the board, making sure the bezel clips from above are latched over their respective spots on the board.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Next, reinstall the backplate onto the device. Remember, re-install the front top plate as well if it became dislodged when disassembling the device.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Replace the screws which were removed when the device was disassembled (above). NOTE: 2 SILVER screws at the top, 2 BLACK screws in the middle, 2 SILVER screws at the bottom (under antenna cover).
Reconnect the antenna cover by snapping it back into place.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Reinsert the SIM Card, MicroSD card, battery and battery cover.
